The Word Heads Installer will install the Word Heads application and the system software required to run the Word Heads application. The Word Heads CD must always be in your CD-ROM drive to run Word Heads.
1. To get the best performance, turn off screen saver programs and close all other applications before running the installation.

What's Installed and How to Uninstall
----------------------------------
In addition to the files installed to the Word Heads folder, the following files are installed in your System Folder, if necessary:
Sound control panel (Control Panels)

To uninstall Word Heads, throw away the Word Heads folder. Use the "Extensions Manager" from "Control Panels" in the "Apple Menu" to turn off the extensions you don't need.
-------------------------
III. Electronic Registration
-------------------------
When you install Word Heads, you are given the option to register electronically. If you choose not to register at this time, you may launch the Register application by double-clicking the "Register Word Heads" icon on your Word Heads CD-ROM.
If you have access to the World Wide Web, you can access the Theatrix Web site directly from the "Get Connected" application on the Word Heads CD. World Wide Web access will supplement your experience of Word Heads, but it is not required to fully enjoy this product.
To access Theatrix on the World Wide Web you will need:
1. A modem and a phone line or any Internet connection
2. An account with an Internet service provider
3. Web browser software such as Netscape Navigator™ or Microsoft Internet Explorer™.
Once you're equipped to access the Web, you can get to the Theatrix Web site by selecting "Theatrix on the WWW" from the "Get Connected" application. To launch the application, double-click the "Get Connected" icon on your CD-ROM.
Identifying Your Web Browser
---------------------------
The first time you access the Theatrix Web site from "Get Connected," you may need to identify the location of your Web browser on your hard drive. The program will search for common browsers on your hard drive and use one if it finds it.
To select the browser that "Get Connected" will use:
1. Choose "Setup" from the "Get Connected" application.
2. In the Setup dialog box, click the "Change Browser" button.
3. Locate the Web browser that you wish to use on your computer's hard disk.
4. When you have highlighted your browser, click "Open."
5. Click "OK" at the original screen.
America Online Users
--------------------
In America Online versions 2.6 and later, access to the WWW is through a separate Web browser application.
To select the AOL Web Browser application as the browser that "Get Connected" will use:
1. Choose "Setup."
2. In the Setup dialog box, click the "Change Browser" button.
3. Locate the file called "Web Browser" in a folder called "Online Browser" in the America Online folder on your computer's hard disk.
4. When you have highlighted "Web Browser," click "Open."
5. Click "OK" at the original screen.
Downloading May Interfere with Program Performance
-------------------------------------------------
If you play Word Heads while you are downloading files from the Internet, performance may be choppy and slow. If this is the case, wait until the files are completely downloaded before playing the program.
Using an older version of a browser when two versions are installed
When you select "Theatrix on the WWW" from the main menu of "Get Connected," the program will always launch the most recent version of the browser you have selected in Setup. If you really want to use an older version, launch that version directly from the Finder.
AT&T WORLDNET SERVICE
-----------------------
For your convenience, this CD includes the Netscape Web browser and everything that you need to sign up for the AT&T WorldNet Service. If you already have an Internet service provider and browser software, our "Get Connected" application will make use of it and you will not need to install the AT&T WorldNet Service.
Installing AT&T WorldNet Service
------------------------------
You can install AT&T WorldNet Service at any time by double-clicking the "Install AT&T WorldNet" icon in the "Install AT&T WorldNet Service" folder on the Word Heads CD-ROM.
Uninstalling AT&T WorldNet Service
---------------------------------
Throw away the AT&T WorldNet Service folder. In addition, the following files are installed in your System Folder if they're not already there.
MacTCP DNR
FreePPP Setup (Control Panels)
MacTCP (Control Panels)
FreePPP extension (Extensions)
FreePPP Config plug-in (Extensions)
Netscape folder (Preferences)
TCP/IP preferences (Preferences)
MacTCP preferences (Preferences)
Netscape Custom data (Preferences)
FreePPP preferences (Preferences)
If you do not wish to use any Internet applications, use the "Extensions Manager" from "Control Panels" in the "Apple Menu" to turn off the extensions and control panels listed above. You can throw away the preferences.
If you plan to continue using other Internet applications, leave MacTCP DNR and MacTCP operational.
Restoring Your Old Internet Preferences
------------------------------------
If you have Internet preferences when you install AT&T WorldNet Service, the installation will store a copy of these preferences in the AT&T WorldNet Service folder: Connectivity Files: Saved Preferences. Drag "MacTCP Prep" into the Preferences folder in your System Folder. When you restart your machine, your old preferences should be restored. See the AT&T WorldNet Service documentation for further information.

Virtual Memory should be turned Off while playing Word Heads. This mode is controlled via the Memory Control Panel on Macintosh System versions 7.5.1 or earlier. From the Apple menu, select "Control Panels," then "Memory." Under "Virtual Memory," click "Off." You must restart your computer for this change to take effect.
Possible Cause: Not enough memory available.
Solutions: Have a minimum of 5 MB available after running system software.
1. Quit other open applications.
2. To make additional RAM available for Word Heads, you can reduce the size of the System Software by disabling System Extensions and Control Panels that are not needed while playing Word Heads. See "Creating a Custom Set of Extensions on a Macintosh" below.
3. You can change the amount of RAM that Word Heads requires by highlighting the "Word Heads" icon in the Word Heads folder on your hard drive and selecting "Get Info" from the "File" menu. Under "Memory Requirements," set the Preferred Size to 4500.

2. Choose "Extensions Manager."
3. Click on "Sets" and select "All off."
4. From the list of extensions, select "Apple CD-ROM" or your CD-ROM Tool kit. Also select Sound Manager.

6. You will need to restart your computer in order for the appropriate extensions to load.
NOTE: You will have to select this custom set of extensions each time you wish to access Word Heads. After you are done using the application, you must go to "Extensions Manager" and select "All on." Then restart the computer for this change to take effect. This will enable all your extensions for other software on the machine.

VI. Video Problem/Solution Section
--------------------------------
Setting Your Video Mode to 256 Colors
-----------------------------------
Word Heads runs in 256 colors. If your monitor is set to display anything other than 256 colors, Word Heads will change the setting for you any time you launch Word Heads and restore it to its previous settings when you quit. You can change this setting yourself by selecting "Monitors" from the "Control Panels" in the Apple menu. Select 256 colors, and your monitor will be immediately reset.

VIII. Sound Problem/Solution Section
----------------------------------
Problem: The sound breaks up in the program.
----------------------------------------

Problem: No sound.
-----------------
Possible Cause: Volume is turned down or muted.
Solution: Check to make sure volume is turned up and Mute is turned off in the Sound Control Panel.
1. From the Apple menu, select "Control Panels" then "Sound."

Problem: "Please insert the Word Heads CD, then click 'Retry' to continue (or click 'Cancel' to exit.)"
Possible Cause: The CD-ROM disc or drive may be dirty, or the CD is not in the drive.
Solutions: If the CD is in the drive, the CD-ROM or the drive may be dirty. Gently rub the bottom of the CD-ROM with a clean, dry cloth. Clean the CD-ROM drive. Try another CD in the same drive to see whether the problem is with the CD or with the drive.
Possible Cause: CD-ROM extension is turned off.
Solution: Select "Extensions Manager" from the "Control Panel" in the Apple menu. Make sure the CD extension is checked and save the changes.
Possible Cause: The CD-ROM disc may be damaged.
Solutions: Attempt to read the CD-ROM disc on another CD-ROM disc drive. If the disc still fails to read, and it is a brand-new disc, contact Technical Support to discuss your problem and determine if you need a replacement disc sent to you at no charge.

------------------------
Possible Cause: Inadequate RAM Memory
Solution: See Memory Section above.
Possible Cause: Program not properly installed.
Solution: Run installer again.
Possible Cause: External volume controls conflict with Word Heads.
